Today was a pack up and quiet day. There was a monster thunder storm overnight and the rain was steady until mid-late morning. We decided to try and see what Raffa was like, it looked interesting from the road that we have frequently used on our way south around the lake. When we got there, we drove straight through, there was a lovely church but apart from that - nothing else....not even a gelataria!! So we headed to Salo instead and parked at ...

... out the proceedings for the day, we started on some retail therapy. The main shopping street in Verona is called Via Guiseppi Manzini and we headed that way. We got as far as Furla and I was enticed by the sale.....I found a nice new work bag in a fawn colour which will be a change from the standard black. It was a bonus that it was 40% off!! We continued down and found Zara, this time the boys wanted to go in and the two little shopaholics devoured ...

We shared a starter of antipasto and then James and Geoff had a risotto, I had a tagliata and Hamish had a pasta pomodoro. After dinner we made our way back to the main square getting a gelati from an artisan seller along the way. It was probably the best one we have had so far..... Then back at ...

... welcomed us and we were treated with some homemade cheese to start with while we made our decisions. We all had pasta to start, the boys a duck ragout with tagliatelle, Geoff had a ravioli stuffed with cheese and truffles, and I had a rabbit fusilli. They were all superb and completely made on the farm from their produce. The second course was a slow cooked beef for Geoff and I and a pork fillet for the boys to share. They were served with potatoes and semi sundried tomatoes which ...

... We were really impressed with its waterfront castle and architecture, but it was hard to move in the tiny streets and the squares were packed with punters drinking and eating. Also it doesn't really have many waterfront spots. Close, but no spritz from these judges. In 2nd position is the often overlooked Lazise. It has a castle, city walls, narrow picturesque streets and plenty of cafe and restaurant spots overlooking the water. ...
