One of the best hotels I've been to. Our room was just over Weinmarkt right in the middle of oldtown and the view was stunning. Friendly staff and great breakfast. It was only a block away from the lake and easy to reach

          Nice place to stay

Excellent location in Lucerne. Center of old town and easy access from the train station.

The gentleman in the reception on the morning that we arrived was not so friendly - in fact he was very cold. However, the room was excellent and it more than made up for his attitude.

However, the receptionist in the evening was very friendly and she took the time to explain a lot of nice spots in Lucerne to us.

Breakfast was also pretty good. Good place to stay and good quality accommodation.

          Enjoyed the Krone

We stayed at the Krone hotel in beautiful Lucerne in Sept. '05. We had a pleasant one night stay and would recommend this hotel for most travelers.

The hotel is on the Old Town side of Lucerne located on the quaint Wienmarkt square. It was a 10+ minute walk from the train station to the hotel. The hotel is styled in a contemporary manner, providing just enough to make the stay comfortable, but it is not a luxury hotel.

The staff was very helpful and breakfast your standard European fare (breads, cheese, meat, etc.). If we are fortunate enough to return to Lucerne, we would stay at this hotel again.

Right in the middle of things. Great views.

The good - great location for shopping. Nice walk from train station.

The not good but got better - not the friendliest of arrivals but the evening desk girls were much more personable and suggested an excellent restaurant for fondue- Wilhelm Tell (early 20th century boat converted into a very nice dining experiece) located on the other side of the lake accross from the theater.

The not good - remote control was missing - requested another - never did receive. Rooms and hotel decor was very standard but the price was reasonable.

          Perfect choice in Alstadt

I have nothing but good things to say about this reasonably priced, exceptionally clean hotel in the Alstadt (Old Town) neighborhood of Lucerne. The staff are helpful and kind, the rooms are large, clean and comfortable, and the location is perfect (there is even a supermarket at the COOP store across the street). Highly recommended.

          What a great location

We stayed for two nights at the Hotel Krone and appreciated its location.

The hotel is close to the river and convenient for sightseeing and shopping. We found it a pleasant and easy walk from the train station. My wife and I were fortunate to have been given a big family room with loads of space to spare. The kettle and complimentary tea and coffee was a bonus as this is seldom found in European hotels. We were able to use a computer with free internet access and found this convenient for sending messages home. Breakfast was good and we were able to cook our eggs the way we liked them.

The only drawback is that the hotel is situated in a vehicle-free zone. This meant that goods and service vehicles had to enter the area after hours. The sound of heavy transport can be disturbing if you are a light sleeper.

          Very Noisy

I was in Lucerne in august 2004. I was extremely disappointed with the hotel. It is noisy and more than fifteen minutes from train station. I and my husband could hardly sleep at night. It does not have any view from the room and does not provide air conditioning. Service is quite poor also.

          No Airconditioning

We stayed here for two nights during the first week of August, and (it's our fault for not checking first), there is no airconditioning! The weather was very hot, and the rooms were sweltering. We had all the windows open, and our room looked out over a cute street with shops and restaurants. People were talking and singing outside until 4:00am. We did not get any sleep either night! I will say that the staff was friendly and the rooms were nice, so I would recommend staying here anytime but the summer.

          Wonderful Experience

The location is perfect. Located in the heart of Lucerne in the Weinmarket in close proximity to great shopping, the train station, the river and many other sites are in easy walking distance. A wonderful bakery is just a couple of doors down and plenty of eating places nearby. A truly great place to stay with exceptional service and a very friendly staff.

          Very Nice Hotel!

My husband and I were there for our anniversary in Sept 2003. Luzern was the last city of the trip - and I had to say that this is the best hotel out of the 3 we stayed during the trip.

They have an elevator up to the 4th floor now - but we had a studio on the fifth floor (the only room on that floor), we had to walk one flight of stairs - which was alright. The room was equipped with kitchen and stove - but no utensils and cooking equipment for some reason...

I felt like I was in an IKEA show room when I first entered our room: very nicely renovated. View of the clock tower.

Breakfast is included - and it was nice too: people can make their own soft boiled eggs. That coffee is like cappucino to me... Very delicious.

Excellent location - right in the middle of the Old Town: all the shops are right there.

Great find in a beautiful town

We arrived in Lucerne early in the morning and walked around the old, historic district to find a hotel room. Hotel Krone offered us a night in one of their apartments if we were willing to tackle four flights of stairs with our luggage. We did and ended up with a real find--a large studio apartment with full kitchen with a view of the old clock tower! The apartments are in a building across the plaza from the main hotel. We were allowed to eat complimentary breakfast at the main hotel and use the free internet connection. Our apartment was comfortable and well-equipped but a bit dusty. I didn't see any rooms in the main hotel. The location can't be beat with easy walking to shopping, sights, and the train station. No views of the river, though, which is one street over.

... I never thought having bread and cheese for breakfast would be quite so nice but it turns out I was wrong. One of the breads was so delicious and I know mum would love it because it had macadamias in it. After breakfast we headed upstairs and got ourselves sorted for the day and hit the pavement. There were a couple of things that we wanted to see and do in Lucerne so we started off by heading to the Musegg Wall which ...

Everything seemed to convert to about double the prices we pay in the US. Needless to say, since we are on a budget we headed to Germany the next ...

... Swiss potato fries in. It is so easy to have a great dinner, with a view of the lake, great wine, food and company! Let me not forget John's dessert. The pictures say much more than words ever could. We finished the night off with walk around a local path. Tomorrow we leave for Italy, and even though we are excited, we also are filled with sorrow for having to leave Dany, Barbra, and beautiful ...

... as it should be, it was delicious. We were served by the owner of the place, it was totally authentic and delicious, top three Chinese food places ever no doubt! After our exploring, laundry, and a great dinner we called it an early night. On Friday (July 20th) we had another late morning wake-up, this time I went to the local bakery and got breakfast for us to enjoy back in the room. Then we headed back to the main shopping district of Zurich ...

... world, at nearly 50% slope much of the time. It took us about 35 minutes to get to the top. The views going up were absolutely amazing! Unfortunately, once we got to the top, we couldn't really see anything because since it was so cloudy all day, the entire top of the mountain was in the clouds! And it was FREEZING up there too. I never did see a thermometer, but if it wasn't below freezing, it had to ...
