The Sacredy Valley

There is a difference between vacation and traveling. And anyone who travels knows that the difference is sleep! There are no late, leisurely mornings when traveling. You have places to go and things to see so you're often up with the sun.

This day was no different. While it's only about a two hour drive between Cuzco and Ollantaytambo, we …

Nice introduction to some Inca ruins!

Last night I was in the Hotel Prisma which has the worst reviews in the world on TripAdvisor, but apart from the WiFi not working properly, it was fine. I had a room not on the front and also wore earplugs, so I got a really good sleep, plus I had my own room for free (you usually have to pay extra to get your own room on G Adventures trips), and …

The Sacred Valley

A travel blog entry by tom_and_cat

The first proper day of our tour started early with a tour of the Sacred Urubamba Valley. We first wound our way up past Sacsayhuaman or "Sexy Woman", a fortress overlooking Cusco and more ruins including temples and baths, before taking a detour off the main road along a cliff top dirt track just wide enough for the bus to a small village home of …

We woke up at around 8am and left on a bus tour around Sacred Valley. Our first stop is at the Jesus Christ statue, it's pretty massive but not as impressive as the one in Brazil (planning my trip in 2014 if I can luckily score some FIFA tickets).

We then took a hiking tour around the Ruins in Pisac, and the agricultural terraces over …

I am so sorry for failing so hard at blogging. We're just having far too much fun! Please accept our humble apologies and this blog post from about 3 weeks ago.

We ate breakfast at the hotel (I ate far too much and felt sick), and then headed out in our Gap Adventure Tours van with the crew. The day was to be a "training day" for the Inca …

    it was ok, nothing special

This was part of a tour so I have no idea how much it was meant to coat rack rate, or how much our tour paid for our stay. The room was basic, and clean, as was the bathroom. I think it was margarine not butter at breakfast time - I am happy for a hotel rep to tell me otherwise if it was in fact butter! Breakfast was included but an extra egg would have cost a sole. I thought this was a bit stingy. There was reasonable WiFi. It was on the outskirts of town but town is so small it did not really matter. Some people whose room backed onto a kind of family courtyard heard a cockerel crowing very early and this spoiled their night's sleep. I wore earplugs so did not hear this, but if it had, it would have been very annoying.

Absolutely huge, comfortable room with a great view of the Sacred Valley and friendly staff, a good stop off point before beginning the Inca Trail.
