Next we hiked up the hill to the Piazza del Comune where we ate lunch in the piazza, listened to a string quartet and visited the Roman Temple of Minerva. The Duomo di San Rufino was our next stop.     After leaving Cortona we slipped briefly out of Tuscany to visit nearby Assisi in the province of Perugia. Resting place for St Francis it was sombre to visit his tomb under the church there, however the rest of the town has been transformed into a religious tourist destination. What said it all was the carousel outside one of the churches that was adorned with religious motifs...note the Francescan monks in the background. ...
