... barking to protect their houses as we rode by. We rode for 20 kms and then stopped in a small village where we queued with the locals to buy bread and fruit tarts for morning tea. The streets didn't get any busier so we kept on biking, Geoff in the lead so he could navigate and me pottering along behind. My legs were feeling like lead, I'm not sure whether it's the 2 glasses of medincial red wine last night, my cold, the previous ...

... other English speakers left half way through the tour. The grounds were vast and beautiful, so we had a long walk before heading to the hotel for a wine. Tomorrow we have a big day of 53 kms and as its Sunday, breakfast doesn't start till 8am . The weather also is on the change and rain is forecast. We are happy to take each day as it comes. Combourg is more touristy than Dinan with lots of people on bikes and more English spoken. Off to Fougeres ...

... I'm so glad we took the local bus as the crowds were ridiculous and parking would have been a nightmare! Absolutely beautiful town but way way too many tourists - we're just not used to that many people! We walked one side of the town (shuffled really) and then jumped on the Petite Train as we thought that might be easier. Not really! Consequently we've decided to give Mont St Michel a miss. Quiet night at the hotel. ...

... long hill into Dinan probably was daunting because we or I was so tired and hot by then. However we made it to the top and along to our Hotel Arvor, right in the middle of the most beautiful medieval town. It reminded us of Ludlow with lots of Tudor style buildings. A lie down and a shower and an hour later we were ready for a walk round the walls of the town and the quaint streets and interesting shops. Dinner was at a ...

... out. A few traffic hold ups as today all the French set off on their summer holidays so a BIG "thank you" to Kari for warning us and recommending that we do the trip in two legs. Dinan is another beautiful town with parking out the back. We even have our own spot with a sign on it that says "Thalbot"! Big walk around town and out for a fab dinner - carpaccio salad, fish and the BEST salted caramel profiteroles I've ever had. ...
