... are autonomous. Their representatives gather once a month in the capital Bern. Each canton have their own laws etc. Switzerland is not part of the Economic Union and use the Swiss Franc although most shops accept euro notes but will give you francs in change. There is conscription and must serve for 3 weeks a year until they are 40. We arrived in Lucerne around 5.30 and look forward to exploring the city tomorrow. Off for tea now and hope to find fondue.

We went on a cruise on the lake which was really fun, then headed to dinner where I had super expensive fish'n'chips and watched the others try Swiss fondue.
It was a quieter night ready for Paris the next day.
