... chewy udons. His favorite! This trip definitely is a nice preview of his Japan study trip when he graduates from Middle School in 3 years. He has genuine interests and a knack with foreign language, always cracks me up!

We had to take a short hike after dinner, just to digest a bit of the sumptuous lunch! The "creek" nearby has become a stream with torrents of muddy water.

Day 2 in Kagoshima and it was an early morning bus to Chiran - about 40 km south of Kagoshima. This town is known for its collection of restored samurai houses, tea (green of course) and the Kamikaze Peace museum.

The reason I came to Kagoshima was because it was described as laid back. Also there's an active volcano in the bay. I spend most of the day here I had walking. First I checked out the Senganen-en Gardens. The highlight here for me was the walk up the hill at the back. Then I headed back into town and made my way up Shiroyama Park which overlooks the city.
