... They were there for the funeral of the man who owned the major newspaper in Cologne and so the church was cordoned off. We could not get into the church.

so, we did what we had to, eat in a super elegant sweet bakery where we enjoyed dessert style cakes that were flooded with strawberries, cherries, etc., cream frosting, ......you get the picture.

It was a mild evening and walking a round with a massive backpack is hot work so as we walked back to station we passed several gelato shops and people eating ice cream, it seemed only right to join them and indulge in a gelato. One cone with mixed berry gelato for me - yum! Back at the station Matt indulged in his favourite German food: curry ...

... to ourselves. This train was very clean. It had mirrored shelving to hold small items, above racks for our luggage and lots of storage for our backpacks. The blue leather seats reclined and the padded headrest detached and I used them as a pillow to look out the window. We were shocked to find that our cup of coffee was $7.00 Euros or $9.50 and there was no offer for a refill. Oh well, you live you learn. Paul stopped in the train station for a croissant ...
