After a brief stop in the small town of Hospental for an overview of their castle ruins, we headed north towards Wassen to pick up gas, but not before sitting for a while in another traffic jam due ...

... and sat at the waters edge and had a picnic lunch in the sunshine. The water was crystal clear and flat, a prefect day and place to be water skiing, maybe with a hot & dry suit on though. I'm sure the water would be freezing just after their spring snow falls now melting back into the lakes. Annette was very keen to purchase an authentic cow bell so I went into a farm machinery shop ...

As I write this I'm waiting for reception to open at the grindelwald youth hostel. Only 2 more hours to go... This leg of the trip couldn't be more different in company, surroundings or situation. Vanessa has left which has made me quite sad, but I've been so fortunate to have a bridge week with my mom and godparents in Basel, Switzerland to ease me into traveling alone. Now, though, I suppose you could say the journey begins. I'll fill in the gaps ...
