We drove about 20 km south of Muri to the city of Thun, which is located at the lower end of Lake Thun. They call it the gateway to the Bernese Oberland. DAY 10 We boarded an early morning train from Brescia, Italy towards the spectacular alpine village of Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland. We arrived in Lauterbrunnen with our jaws agape, marveling at the incredible scenery, just in time to find one of the last available "cheap" rooms in town ($150... ouch!). We quickly caught a shuttle bus to Trummelbach Falls, a series of ten cascading falls eroded into a narrow, twisting, almost enclosed limestone gorge in the cliff above ...

As I write this I'm waiting for reception to open at the grindelwald youth hostel. Only 2 more hours to go... This leg of the trip couldn't be more different in company, surroundings or situation. Vanessa has left which has made me quite sad, but I've been so fortunate to have a bridge week with my mom and godparents in Basel, Switzerland to ease me into traveling alone.
