... can go do the piscine, to bathe in the water.

Lourdes is now in the throes of a grotto rejuvenation campaign, and there is construction all around the grotto. The statue of the Virgin Mary, white and blue, still looks out from the shelf where she is supposed to have appeared, but now she overlooks the bulldozers. Pilgrims are kept to a walkway across from the grotto, where they kneel and pray near the river but facing the grotto. There are many ...

We purchased little bottles to take some Holy Water home but you could buy 5 ...

Caught the train to Lourdes. It is six hours from Paris but we had been looking forward to seeing the grotto where Bernadette saw the Virgin Mary. The basilica is magnificent. Lourdes is picture postcard. It is tranquil and the river runs through the town. There is a fort high up on ...

... the public along the river. It is very picturesque with long shopping avenues that predate modern times and were originally created by the Romans, much like the avenues in Paris. There are no references to Napoleon here as it was mentioned that the ppl of Bordeaux hated him. In paris every other street, bridge, or monument gas a big N on it. You would think that he was never defeated at Waterloo. The British see things very differently. Then on to Lourdes for our overnight ...
