... carnival started as a result of the lower classes demanding more from their rulers. As a result a festival of equality was created where everyone could party and be merry and enjoy equally. Watch out because the masks have historical significance so try and stay away from the prostitute and dr varieties. Venice filled your head with many beautiful pictures but hurt my wallet!! It's a very touristy city and I would not like to come back in ...

We got to go to many of the places from the film, although some we only drove
past as they don’t allow tourists in (such as the Nonnberg Abbey and the house
used for external shots which is now a music university). We also got to drive
out to the beautiful lake and mountain districts to the town of Mondsee, where
they filmed the wedding scene in the church. There is a café across the street

A real lunch is in order so we order spaghetti and salad at the hotel restaurant. It's areal cozy place and quite busy. People were ordering something called a "Salzburg Nockerl", a dessert like a pie with peaks of meringue on top. This place is famous for preparing it but it serves about six people. Too much for us so we pass.

... us on the Autobaun (damn you Garmin) instead of the more scenic 158 road (and try as a might, I could not get Garmin to put us on the 158). Anyway, the unlimited speedway of the Autobaun was quite the experience with cars flying past me even though I was driving at 120 km per hour. So with the benefit of the Autobaun were arrived in Mondsee less than 30 minutes after we left Schloss Leopoldkron (and that was with a backup to get onto the Autobaun and through some raod ...

With an early start from Munich, we boarded a train to Salzburg, Austria. Although it was drizzling, we were able to make the most of the day and explore this beautiful city. With the train station being a few miles from the heart of the city, we were able to stroll along the Salzach River and explore many of the local vendors along the river.

The walkway along the river brought us directly to the Old Town (Alstadt). The main street (Getreidgasse) held many different shops ...
