... Very informative they said. It was the local nazi head quarters. Lots of the prisoners were 18 or younger, as these were the resistance fighters.

We all meet at the Joest Museum, which is an ethnologic collection based on Mr Joest's travel acquisitions in the 1800's. The curation of the museum was really well done, with beautiful presentation, and thought provoking observations on religions, nomads, household organizations.

... in Trier. I am anxious to see if I can find the apartment building where I lived when my Dad was stationed there in 1957. I never forgot the address or its general location. Stay tuned.

The weather has been staying mild and promises to stay so for a while longer. We are looking forward to our trip south and back to some of the old haunts (especially the gasthofs). We will photo some of the finer culinary delights.

... city with lots of history. Standing on their balcony, you can see into Belgium in on direction and to Germany in the other. Quite a unique little corner of the Netherlands. We were treated to wonderful home-cooked Dutch cuisine and had a fun time catching up after some ten years since they visited us in Canada.

... twice, but it was impressive none the less. Much was underground by gas light. Thee caves were actually quarry caves where the limestone was removed by farmers and used in local buildings and also the Church domes. ... away (which, of course, we had to visit) also offered moules. Turns out this airfield (Kiewit) opened in 1907 and initiated the first aerial activity in Belgium. More importantly now, it provided the best coffee (and certainly beer) of any airfield cafe I have visited. The coffee included biscuits and a mini-mars bar!
