    We've been sleeping with the windows wide open at night so this morning we woke to the sound of helicopters and cheering - the marathon was underway.     Despite our best intentions to be up early and out the door by 8am, it didn't happen. Don let me sleep in till 7:15am so it was more like 8:30am when we were walking to St Michael's metro.     We didn't wake till 8am ish today and remarkably, our bodies are ok. Breakfast consisted of many French breads and pastries (so the walking miles each day will have to continue). Our room feels like we are are living in the "Aristocats" movie era - purple opulent furnishings, we look out over Parisian rooftops and chimneys (we're on the 7th floor) …

    Prior to having breakfast we walked to Luxembourg gardens (5mins from hotel), which Jacqui had recommended we do. A nice way to start the day and is obviously enjoyed by the locals - there are hundreds of seats/benches scattered throughout the area.
