We were completely spoiled in Aussois (and we benefitted from the early "no snow" reduced prices). Our hotel was a beautiful small family run establishment with a Michelin recognized chef and a staff ...

Thankgod for the human behind hey?


After an hour of human bobsledding (both deliberate and accidental), El stacking it numerous times and random acts of kindness whereby people stopped and offered to ski with my ski's down the mountain (in which I politely accepted), we made it...and took the next two days off skiing.

We've left Lourmarin with some sorrow, but soon perked up when we got into the Alps. It's been a perfect day, the trees are turning Autumn colours and although it's 26 degrees there's snow on the high tops. Briancon has this amazing fort built to keep the Italians out many years ago. ... year Italy's farmers are growing Sweetcorn....lots of them. Very good but there were fields and fields of them. There wasnt a great deal going on, the only thing of note was the studied ignorance of the lady working behind the buffet counter, she was great, she made everyone wait and remained unflustered as the queues built up. Order a drink and she'd walk away from you, after you eventually got served she would consult ...

... the wild coastline and the brown sea. In Livorno we settled back into our campsite and waited for the weather to clear. By late afternoon we were able to venture out on the bikes to assess the damage to the coastline here. There was lots of debris washed up on the shore,.. very different beaches to those of a few days ago. Thursday saw a late start,.. clear blue skies,.. and bloody hot,.. again! A bike ride and a quiet lunch at one of the many seaside ...
