      ... a bottle of Gatorade on the walk to the trail. At the end of the walk, I couldn't believe we were done. It felt awesome to be done walking. We bought some packaged ice cream. It was very good. We sat down in front of a church to eat some real food. We had crackers with avocado and cucumbers. About an hour and a half later, a bus came to pick us up so we could get back to our hostel without walking another ...

      ... my hotel that was just a few steps away ; the owner of my hostel had heard that I was screaming but had not interfered as the situation seemed to be too common to him – strange experience, after which I had no alternative to just getting calm again… Went to sleep at around 11 pm.

      We caught a bus heading to Bucaramanga, the largest city in the Santander district. Our plan involved spending the night in Bucaramanga so that the next day we could get an early start on exchanging some of our money into US dollars and Venezuelan Bolivars. Then I could finish the job of hiding our funds before we headed towards the border on a night bus.
