          A welcome sight

We arrived here after 11 hours of detours and bad roads from San Cristobal de las Casas. While a tent with running water may have been just as welcome, this hotel provided far more of a salve to we weary travellers. The pool is excellent and the rooms are well appointed.
Water pressure in the shower is a little poor but fine nonetheless. The local eating places are probably the best in Palenque so no real need to venture into town at all.

A good hotel in a tropical setting. The rooms are huge with air conditioning that is essential in May when I travelled. The hotel has a pool, restaurant and free Wi-Fi.

Arrived late and because of the price thought we would be staying somewhere a pretty dodgy, but were pleasantly surprised by how modern, clean and roomy the hotel was. It had a really nice pool and outdoor area and the rooms were very nicely furnished and spottlesly clean. The staff were helpful and seemed really nice. I would definently recommend staying here.

36 degrees today with 90%25 humidity. Spent the day trying yo ignore the constant stream if sweat dripping down my back and into my nickers. I needed to get some money from the ATM so decided to go for a walk round the main street of the town. Palenque is a grotty town and has absolutely nothing to offer. The only reason to come anywhere near …

We weren't loud and the place was pretty busy. I am sure that the other guide extended her monologue as she took a very long time to describe every detailed crack and fissure in the walls. On the other hand, Gabriel described what we were seeing and then asked us to move aside so that the next group could gain access. It costs nothing to ...

We need not have bothered with our punctuality.

The bus finally departed at 21.00 and the promised 6 hour journey was more like 7.5hours, the driver stopped for 20 minutes for some dinner while most slept so we dragged our butts through the door of the prebooked hotel at 05.00.

... the warm, bath-like swimming pool until around 10pm, until we were eventually called over by an older Mexican lady. We had to acclimatise ourselves next to the fire, and say some old Mayan word before entering the Temezcal. Inside, we all sat down in a semi circle and had to draw crosses on burning hot stones with a piece of wax like, eucalyptus smelling rock. Then there was lots of chanting, darkness, and heat for the next 90 minutes. I had to state what I wanted to get ...

Finally got on the bus at 11pm, settled in on the seats - did not manage to get front seats this time and the bus definitely wasn't as nice as the first overnight bus.
