    A welcome sight

We arrived here after 11 hours of detours and bad roads from San Cristobal de las Casas. While a tent with running water may have been just as welcome, this hotel provided far more of a salve to we weary travellers. The pool is excellent and the rooms are well appointed.
Water pressure in the shower is a little poor but fine nonetheless. The local eating places are probably the best in Palenque so no real need to venture into town at all.

    A tropical setting

A good hotel in a tropical setting. The rooms are huge with air conditioning that is essential in May when I travelled. The hotel has a pool, restaurant and free Wi-Fi.

    Wonderful and Cheap

Arrived late and because of the price thought we would be staying somewhere a pretty dodgy, but were pleasantly surprised by how modern, clean and roomy the hotel was. It had a really nice pool and outdoor area and the rooms were very nicely furnished and spottlesly clean. The staff were helpful and seemed really nice. I would definently recommend staying here.

All luggage and group members were ready at 8am and loaded to the van. We had agreed by majority vote that we would take the route that went past two waterfalls as it was more direct, however it was also less safe. Gabriel said there could be delays but our safety would never be at risk. Curiously the normally busy and very narrow street out front …

A long drive from San Cristobal de Las Casas to Palenque today (five and a half hours) as we had to reroute to avoid Zapatistas (National Liberation Army) who have become very active around the area we were supposed to drive through, and are targeting tourists to draw attention to their cause.

We were content to take a collectivo back to Palenque central, grab some dinner, and head back to our hostel to cool off and relax for the evening. It wasn't until dinner that we realised we hadn't had any coffee during the day, hence our headaches...

... it had been the same at every historic site so far. The runs themselves were incredible I think because of the jungle setting they seemed that bit more imposing. After a few hours clambering around on them in the baking heat we decided to call it a day and go for lunch. We went to town with Alex as he had some mail to post and whilst he ran his errands we went for lunch at a cheap taqueria where I had a massive portion of ...

Thankfully there are signs every where for Margarita and Ed’s cabaņas and we find it easily enough. We were going to be shown two rooms to pick from but after hearing the first room had AC we say "esta bien" and dump our bags.

It is 6pm when we head out to grab dinner. Our first stop is Chely’s a new bar / restaurant trying to establish itself here in El Panchan. ...
