A good hotel in a tropical setting. The rooms are huge with air conditioning that is essential in May when I travelled. The hotel has a pool, restaurant and free Wi-Fi.

    Wonderful and Cheap

Arrived late and because of the price thought we would be staying somewhere a pretty dodgy, but were pleasantly surprised by how modern, clean and roomy the hotel was. It had a really nice pool and outdoor area and the rooms were very nicely furnished and spottlesly clean. The staff were helpful and seemed really nice. I would definently recommend staying here.

    In the tropics

A long drive from San Cristobal de Las Casas to Palenque today (five and a half hours) as we had to reroute to avoid Zapatistas (National Liberation Army) who have become very active around the area we were supposed to drive through, and are targeting tourists to draw attention to their cause.

    ... for preservation takes precedence.

After a very good guided tour (for an extra price) we made our way down the hill through some stunning forest scenery and waterfalls, ending up at an interesting museum. This ruin is the home of a famous tomb with an interesting artwork depicted on the cover of a Mayan reading the stars. Though the things around him are all symbols known from the period, it has been interpreted by some conspiracies as ...

... It is like a maze up there, we kinda got lost for a moment. Then we finally found the way we came up and tried to go down, only to be scolded by a tour guide. Then we found the exit, right down over the front of the structure.

It is so large, only about a third of it is uncovered. In the pictures, we show a 360 video of the Grand Plaza, just to give you ...

... Ed's was at the end of the road and as far into the jungle as you could go. We even managed to get the room furthest away from the track, so we were definately as far into the jungle as possible - the experience we were hoping for. The room was huge with windows on three of the walls, all protected by mozzie screens, so we were going to be able to listen to the sounds of the jungle too.

... the waterfalls of Misol-Ha and Aqua Azul and finally on to San Cristobal. An efficient use of time and a very scenic route. Being my first day in Mexico, this was also the start of my tequila challenge: to sample a different tequila for every day I'm in Mexico. As I plan to be in Mexico for more than a month, this should mean I get to try a significant portion of what's on offer. For the first shot of my challenge I was joined by my Dutch roomie and ...
