A good hotel in a tropical setting. The rooms are huge with air conditioning that is essential in May when I travelled. The hotel has a pool, restaurant and free Wi-Fi.

    Wonderful and Cheap

Arrived late and because of the price thought we would be staying somewhere a pretty dodgy, but were pleasantly surprised by how modern, clean and roomy the hotel was. It had a really nice pool and outdoor area and the rooms were very nicely furnished and spottlesly clean. The staff were helpful and seemed really nice. I would definently recommend staying here.

... The other structures go on beyond the plaza.

We like camping at Palenque it doesn't change much. The pool had been painted and was very clean. But there were not enough people in the restaurant for the Musicians to show up. We missed the music, however, the howler monkeys came near the campground for a few visits, once in the afternoon and twice in the night.

... still covered by jungle. Mounds covered in trees but you could see stones scattered around. Edgar found some pieces of pottery lying around too. We made our way to a newly discovered Mayan swimming pool. It fills itself from an underground spring that wells up into the pool and the Mayans have built an aqua duct that drains the pool back into the stream. We were able to climb down through the aqua duct tunnel and we even saw some Jesus spiders and bats here :) On the way ...

... buried in the jungle. Palenque is the most studied & written about about of all of the Mayan sites. What a discovery, what a rush to uncover another world, another lifetime. It's hard to believe modern archeologist's suggest that only 5-10% of the Mayan city has been uncovered and that thousands more buildings are still covered by the dense surrounding jungle. We roamed and climbed the ruins for hours, it was unbelievably hot but we were comforted by the impending ...

... to. It would seem that protesting could be a profession in Mexico... We then stopped for breakfast at an expensive and questionable quality wise place. With our stomachs newly settled we decided to pass. We were glad we did later on! We were then dropped to the border departure building (which from the street looked like a house) and had to pay $600 Mexican dollars ($60 NZ) to leave. Our guide book said nothing on fees so we had been running out our Mexican money and we only had ...
