... stop at Colosseum and we were met by Jonathan the Brazilian sales man for small tours of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palentine! BINGO! The Italian guide was tricky to understand at first but once you got used to her accent things became a lot clearer, unlike the weather which seemed to just get hotter. We chatted about what it must have been like to be a spectator watching all of the fights and killings that took place. It is such an incredible place that you lose a little bit of reality and get swept up in the immense history. After we left the Colosseum we just wandered around the surroundings, had gelato (mmmmm yummmy) ...
... on time we paid the few extra euros and took the elevator half way up (we still had to climb about 300 steps). The view from the top was breathtaking. The panoramic views were definitely worth the wait. Unfortunately, our time in Rome was running out, so we needed to get back to the train station. We returned to Civitavecchia around 6 PM. By the time we got back to the cruise ship we could barely walk. To sum up our day in Rome in one word... Fantastico! ...
... swimming in brine. Fresh yogurt. They had muesli & other cereals. We were fed with this amazing feast everyday for breakfast.
Massimo was our driver. He looked like a club bouncer. It took two trips to shuttle us to La Giustiana. Today we are a lot more confident. We've taken the train yesterday & we are determined to take the train back.
The Roma pass was 34€. It included the metro, bus, & 2 tickets to the Colliseo & Forum. Most of the time ...
... I had never been here, unlike Pisa. We will be taking one day to visit the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain and one day to see the Pantheon and other sites near by. Friday is set aside for a special tour of the Vatican City. The Pope will probably want to talk to me and get my views on the saving of the world.
