Today was a traveling day. We left Saas Grund and headed
East via Italy to Locarno. The drive took us through some amazing mountain
passes including Simplonpass, the Gondoschlucht, Val Divedro and Val Vigezzo
which is also known as the Vally of a Thousand Valleys. The scenery ...

... later! Love those direct trains! A short taxi ride and we were at our B & B Resiidence Cavour, about a block from lake front. We were met by our host Moione who checked us in, showed us our room, the residence amenities, explained a few sights to see around Lake Como and places to eat. The rest of the afternoon was spent exploring this beautiful area which we've heard so much about through the media. Now that we're here, it's as beautiful and inspiring as we envisioned it! ...

Nearby was the Basilica S. Ambrogio that we were on our way to see. It is a Romanesque church built around 376-386 and one of the most ancient in Milan.

Perfect sunny day today so decided to visit more of the towns up the lake.

Caught the bus up to Bellagio where it turned out a Ferrari club was staying. The array of toys in the hotel car park was fairly impressive.

Then took the ferry to a fishing village called Varenna for a look & on to Tremazzo on the opposite side of the lake. There was a pretty swish hotel with a floating pool & lakeside bar. ...

... view over most of the lakes.Whilst we were in Baveno, we had a chance to catch up with Toni and Clare for dinner at the La Troppola restaurant. It was nice to catch up and see how their trip was going - unlike us they were driving themselves around Italy, which is no mean feat - the Italians aren't big on obeying the road rules and some of the roads are very narrow - I wouldn't like to encounter our bus on some of those narrow windy ...
