... to Santa Maria dell Vitae, another city centre church (there are many in case you hadn't noticed by now) with some great art. The highlight of this church though is a sculpture set in red terracotta, showing the three Marys lamenting over the body of the Christ. They are all so clearly devastated that, as well as being life size, the figures are truly life like. The whole set has been accurately described as "a petrified scream". Simply wonderful. ... not one church, but seven. With a mind numbing history and architecture. Joy has taken a zillion photos, which we will try to load soon. One problem with this hotel is that the Internet is very slow for loading photos, and we have to pay for it. Hmmm - like being back in the Dublin tour hotels! I stopped at a small gas station and spent my last bit of Euros on petrol thinking that should be plenty to get me to the coast.
