... a posh afternoon tea at Reid's hotel and the second on our return, which some of you won't get until later tonight or not until after the weekend for those who read this at work.

Funchal is the main city on the island of Madeira, a dependency of Portugal. It is off the African coast north of the Canary Islands. We were due to make landfall there on Wednesday, 21st October at 9am. Because of rough seas and slow progress we did not dock until 3pm. We then had until 7pm when we were due back on board to explore the town.

Talk about chaos on the roads, but the drivers seemed to dodge each other very well. Now about the taxi, it was clean, as is our custom we put on our seat belts but Geoff’s bit that should have been attached to the car came off in his hand.
