        Wow! Switzerland was gorgeous!

We booked an Airbnb outside of Bern in a 300 year old farmhouse. Our hosts were Natalie and Erich. Natalie is American but a German citizen now married to Erich who is Swiss. Her son in Canada has just had a baby with his NZ girlfriend who lives in Rotorua! We were their first NZ guests. The farmhouse and farm has been in Erichs family for 3 or 4 generations. There was a separate house that they lived ...

The time with my family went by just too fast and we had to say our goodbyes and fetch our trains, which went in opposite directions to our homes.

... generation or two. Oh, the Swiss are just perfect at everything! Spending time with Susan and her boyfriend Roland, we learnt they live a few houses from Roland's family farm and only a few kilometres from Susan's family farm. They enjoy playing the euphonium and accordion, playing a Swiss hurling sport, indoor volleyball and spending time with family and friends. They know their neighbours and their neighbours know them. In fact, everybody knows everybody and ...

... they had been doing the landscaping for an apartment block. They had done a lot of paving, concrete work and stone work, as well as ground levelling and laying out grass seed. He then took us to another site where they had again done some stone work with big blocks, and lastly to see a pool they had done a while back, which was quite interesting (especially as the owners seemed to be using it as more like a pond than the swimming pool it was built as). It was about time to ...

We arrived in Interlaken around 3pm, and we were greeted by foggy weather and light drips of rain. However, during the ride there, I have to say it was the most beautiful train ride I've been on. During the 3 hour train ride (in which we passed through Lucerne), we saw rolling mountains, hills, endless plains of grass, just everything you imagine Switzerland to be like. I can't believe we are right at the foot of the Alps!

It was rainy, so the nice ...
