... meal - the food was good and what everyone wanted, the place was warm and pleasantly noisy, and the mixture of English, Italian and German that the wait staff used helped to relax us, since I think it is much easier to communicate when everything gets jumbled and clearly everyone wants to communicate but is not stressing the grammar. The house beer was better at the GastHaus, but that was the only negative.

Returning to the hotel, Laura went up to lie ...

... I am afraid we didn't even try to speak one word of German, but she spoke English and pointed us to the non-smoking dining room. Unfortunately, that must also mean the "foreigner" dining room, so we ended up in a room by ourselves, with cloth-covered tables, and English pop songs playing softly in the background, rather than the wood-paneled, jovial beer garden I was envisioning, but the house beer was still very good, as was the food. I ordered the set "menu", even ...

We have a fantastic family room ...

... I took. The buildings have a Mediterranean look to them and there are bright colours absolutely everywhere! The sidewalks are very thin, so it’s rather chaotic attempting to walk around and bicycles seem to go wherever they please. During our stay here, we visited the famous clock tower atop the hill and its surrounding gardens. We also visited the Eggenberg castle and the grounds there, which are absolutely beautiful and ...

      Wien to Graz

      Wien to Graz
A leisurely packup this morning. We
have taken to breakfasts of the local dark heavy bread with cheese
and salami type sausage along with an expresso coffee.
We bought OBB train tickets to Graz
and this was obviously a mistake as they are very much dearer than
the internet prices I had seen previously (about X3). Even though the
      train was sparsely ...
