... were sentenced to life in prison and escorted from the court to jail, they would sigh as they crossed the bridge, because it would be the last time they would ever see Venice. It was the perfect way to spend our last night in Venice, topped off by a hot chocolate on the walk back. I loved our time here, so peaceful and quiet at night time, it's dead silent without any car or traffic noise. I do say that I would miss grass and trees after a while though ...

It was amazing to see no cars, no roads, only footpaths, canals and lots of bridges! Hugh pointed out to us signs giving directions to places and signs that ...

We had been a little disappointed with Venice the first time but I think the problem there was in that we were stuck in the tourist area and that we were pretty jet lagged. We ended up finding a little cafe near the train station that ...

... hedonism and the outrageous over-pricing left me cold. I kept wondering what Yusuf or Mr Bakali from Malawi would make of it all. How could I ever explain to them the glitzy fashion shops, the astonishingly expensive and underwhelming food and the casual indifference of strangers for each other? Lest I come across as a hypocrite, let me openly state that of course I am one. I love my fine food, nice clothes and life of luxury as much as the next Western person, but Venice ...
