... We were able to leave on a relatively calm day so it made the first night passage palable. The next morning woke up to the pounding of the hull. We’ve been fighting the prevailing easterly winds for over a month but it doesn’t make it any more pleasurable. To add to the open wound, we were heading into the Mona passage which is considered to be a tough path to get to Puerto Rico and the Virgin islands. If we had chosen to go down ...

They said I could either pay 1,000 pesos/month (about $27/month) or put in the floor/room wall dividers and pay something small at the end of the 2 years. My host mom said the 2nd option was better. It's not too bad of a price my project partner said and it's pretty big for 1 person to live in. ...

... might as well be jumps!) and too many pot holes and dirt sections of road to count. However, when we finally descended into the valley and the town, it was clear that it was well worth the drive! Samana is a small town in an inlet off of the Atlantic Ocean, and it is apparently quite a tourist area for cruise ships, which I didn't realize. There is a small island in the bay, which you can pay to go to, and apparently there are beautiful beaches ...
