... 2 hours at Pompeii walking through the ruins, hearing about how the town has been (and continues to be) restored. Then it's back on the coach for our final leg to Maiori on the Amalfi coast. I didn't know much about this part of Italy before coming on this trip, only that there were lots of holiday villages along the coast. I think I expected it to be like along the Ocean Road, or the Peninsula- boy was I wrong! Huge, ...

... The train journey offers amazing views and we have been joined by a four piece band on the train! This certainly beats the drunk busker that sometimes gets on at Hove and sings great balls of fire. The journey was good fun to herc as we got some lovely views out of the window and was the first time we had left Sorrento. Herculaneum was just a short walk down the hill from the station and as you walk towards the ticket office you cast your eye over what ...

... buffalo mozerrella and olives...which I then thoroughly enjoy on the roof terrace with the hills looming high behind me and the ocean stretched in front. Piano music drifts across from the gorgeous Villa across the bay, which I'd admired from my kayak, and I think perhaps I'll visit tomorrow night and have a peek...for now I head to bed, and on the way give my 3/4 bottle of prosecco to a couple sitting on the terrace....I'm a lightweight these days...two drinks and I'm done!!!

... Time to return, walk back up to the road and wait for a bus ride back. Once back at apartment, we are able to reach Beth Forsyth so we can ask about Duke & Ella. They are doing great, watching birds out the windows all day, Ella follows Sam around and Duke stays with Beth when they are home from work/school. Cats have had no fights, no jealousy, must like having a place to themselves all day.

      Boat Trip to Sorrento

Today we leave Amalfi for Sorrento. We have decided to take a boat to Sorrento rather than the bus. It's a little more money but we like the different perspective we will get and is probably a smoother ride! There is only one boat in the morning and it doesn't leave until 1130 so we can relax this morning. I go out around 1015 to pay the bill and get us something to eat. We were going to get the spinach rolls we liked the other day but they were not open yet so I get ...
