We have been told not to expect too much of the hotels in Switzerland. The Hotel Baren proved to be an exception to this. It has good sized bed, bath and sitting rooms and a balcony with beautiful views of the mountains behind St. Moritz.
The food was OK but not what I would normally order (Broccoli soup, ham and turkey and fruit salad).
There is no internet in the room but it is available in the lobby.

... my mum worked for 6 months when she was a little older than me. We went back to their house for a beautiful cooked lunch followed by dessert of cherries and cream! Afterwards Dario and Claudia took us up to our family house in the mountains- the equivalent of a Bach in NZ 'Cansume'. It was just as I remembered it- so beautiful. We walked around for a while and the view is just incredible! Ilaria picked us up in the afternoon and we went ...

When we got home we all just relaxed as we were all tired from the big day. For dinner we had a light meal as we were still full from lunch. We had local pasta from Poschiavo with a cherry tomato sauce. For dessert we had stewed apples with cinnamon. After dinner we packed our bags so that we will be ready to leave in the ...

We were lucky enough to see most of the glacier, but turn your back and it's enveloped in cloud again. Over the actual Bernina pass ...

I started looking for hotel signs. Followed a few signs but didn't find anything. I was driving through a valley with lush hills on both sides and streams flowing along the road. Just after Spinedi-Ca' San Giorgio I saw a hotel and restaurant on the side of the road, with parking. Perfect!
Friendly staff that spoke enough English, good price. Wifi and a good restaurant. What a day!
... it is at the regular supermarkets. I suddenly feel empowered. Yes! I actually could travel for a long time here in Switzerland and not break my budget! I just need to find a Hofer every now and again and stock up. I notice the people here. For the first time here in Switzerland, I see a significant percentage of immigrants. Somali, South Asian, Arab. But they all look classy and respectable. Obviously I can't tell by a short observation, ...
