After dropping off our goodies from Brugge, we, hopped the tram, bound for Gravensteen castle. The present castle was built in 1180 by count Philip of Alsace. We took the tour, which provided interesting insight to the period in which it was built as well as its eventual abandonment, decay, and rebirth. We got caught in a heavy downpour ,taking refuge in the Royal gallery where we did some chocolate shopping in the many chocolate shops in this area.
