Anyways, moving on, Sunday was a very eventful day! In the morning, my host mom and I woke up early and went to church. My host mom is Russian Orthodox- by far the majority religion in Russia, but in Kazan it is only about half of the population. If you remember me talking about and posting pictures of Saint Peter and Saint Paul Cathedral, we went there for the service. We were there for about an hour. Hmmmm, so we turned the ***** off and followed the signs. It wasn’t long before the road turned to dirt but it was a pretty good dirt road and we hadn’t been very impressed with Russian paved roads. According to our Russian Road Atlas, we would encounter ...

Birthday at a Bus Stop

... with big 2L plastic bottles that needed to be filed up. We saw one guy carrying three 5L bottles. How much Holy water does one man need? We arrived at the monastery at about 1pm, at this point it was about 1:20pm, Kate told us that we would need to take the bus to our next stop, the bus came at 2pm or 3:30pm. We quickly agreed on 2pm and she seemed shocked, “so no lake or village then?” Ummm no, we had had enough excitement for one day. We waked out to ...
