... candy and flowers ("Kamillo" and "Trushia"), but we also learned the names and a few lyrics of the 3 famous German songs we heard playing all weekend. The songs have now been on repeat on all of our Itunes for the past week... By the end of the parade, we boarded the bus back home with a bag full of candies, chocolates, and flowers.

Although we arrived back to Freiburg to a week full of midterms and deadlines for papers, our carnival weekend made it totally worth it.

... and hundreds of horses too! Everything was so colourful and the crowd was so loud and excited, it was a great atmosphere! We stayed through the entire parade - which lasted around 5 and a half hours! - and enjoyed every minute! It was a long day, and we did get rather cold, but it was entirely worth it to experience a proper German tradition!

Here are some facts my Mummy sent me afterwards - it is shocking just how big the carnival really is!

... meat about the size of a rugby ball, we struggled round the main art gallery which has a fine collection of Picasso's and Wahol paintings but I am afraid we lowered the tone by doing a Harry Worth with one of the exhibits. ... We went swimming in Plettenberg in the massive fun pool I'd found before - everyone enjoyed it, even if we were a bit battered by the end of the three hours! The lazy river is really quite vicious!

  • We went shopping in Lüdenscheid so that they could see what sort of shops we have here. We bought lots of Christmas presents and had fun looking at all the nice interior design things!

    ... had beautiful buildings though. Christian told us of a cheap pizza parlour that sold it's slices for 0.50 euro. After walking around we went looking for it and it had been closed down. Anna later found out that it was due to hygienic purposes. Next to it though, there was a kebab place that sold pizza for 1 euro. So we bought those slices instead. Christian isn't fond of cheese so he had a falafel kebab instead. I actually ...
