... again 5kms before Cadca, with no stopping until nightfall. I could have stopped in Cadca and spent the night there but I had to make more progress so I took the road leading to the polish border, and after another 15kms, in the town of Skalite, around 19:30, in the rain, started looking for a pension. I was completely drenched of course and even got full-body splashed with muddy water by a car passing ...
... Sweet, that works well. Making it to the campsite was a bit long, but thanks to my headlamp and my map I didn't get lost, only to find the campsite reception closed (at 9pm). I entered anyways, and set up my tent, cooked Thai rice in the dark, and took a shower. There's only a handful of people staying here, there's a river nearby, the showers are very... basic, but it will do nicely. I wonder if I'll sleep in Poland ...
... range. It's a beautiful road, fast sweepers and hairpins, very new and grippy surface.
We drop down into a broad valley and take the road towards the Kremnica. In the tour research I had noted a lovely looking hotel, the Penzion Stefanshof. It lies just outside the town of Kremnica in the hills to the east.
... amazingly well preserved. It has lots of the original furniture from various owners and the wall frescos are very well preserved. But what Impressed us the most was the intricately carved woodwork in every room and on most wall surfaces. A really beautiful castle.
The afternoon was spent with Valerie's aunt and 2 cousins. They could not have been nicer ...
... many caves, there were some beautiful formations that looked like draped fabric. The tour ended with a boat ride through several caves. The whole process took about a hour and was very well done. Keith, I took many photos of rocks for you! We had lunch standing up at the snack bar; hotdogs and fried cheese sandwiches (a local speciality), then off to Slovakia. The roads were a little rough ...
