This morning I found the reception lady to pay what I owed (4 euros), and then took off to Zilina, the first stop of the day. There I finally found a Slovakian cantina and had duck breast for 5 euros. I did a bit of shopping there, buying baby wipes to be prepared for a night of wild camping in the mountains, and took the road of Cadca. ... one hour late anyways, and checked the restaurants around. Sure thing two thirds of them were pizzerias, and absolutely zero Slovak food place. What a shame. The few traditional Slovak things I sampled at the Flagship restaurant in Bratislava were amazing. In Trencin I settled for a "normal" place and had mahi mahi fish. For dessert I found a berry kiosk in town and bought a big box. Then I had to choose a way to go. The "safe" ...
... of ore and very realistic pit props. Here we are treated to a glass or two of 'Geist', a seriously strong (65%+) liquor made from pears.
We chat the evening away with two other guests, businessmen from Italy who also visit Belfast regularly.
it's a touch of western class in 'The Golden Heart of Slovakia' as Kremnica is known. ...

On the way back to our hotel, we stopped in the UNESCO heritage village of Cicmany with its unique painted houses. Valerie and Dan took a picture of themselves standing in front of a house where her parents were photographed 50 years ago.

... but we made good progress. We stopped at a Haluski festival. Haluski are dumplings (like gnocchi) with sheep cheese, bacon and onions. This festival is the World Haluski competition! We got to hotel Janosikov Dvor in Zazriva around 5:30. This is a lovely hotel in the country. The buildings are styled after the traditional Slovak cottage.
