Almost exactly thirty years ago my parents enjoyed a week on the island of Mallorca. They both remember it fondly, especially because it snowed! The other night, Mum pulled up the ancient slide projector screen and we snuggled down for a slide show of their holiday snaps. I expect the coastline is somewhat more developed, but I hope the steep terraces, wildly plummeting gorges and dark trunked almonds are just the same. They've warned me off hire cars ...
... some lovely areas to get different views of the island.
There were beaches to walk on, a lovely rock walkway along one side of the island, caves where you could hear the water crashing and disappearing into, and the water was sooo clear and turquoise!
We had a very restful time in Mallorca. Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday season thus far and look for our next post from Rome!
... his white dinner jacket, black trousers, black shirt and white bow tie. Our team performed admirably in the syndicate quiz finishing 1st equal on 17 points. However we lost out on the tie-break. The question was "How long was the Hundred Years' War"? There were 3 teams in the tiebreak. We thought 113 years and the other 2 teams went for 65 and 114 years. The correct answer was 116 so we were close but not close ...
... They liked coming here for the sea breezes. It is high on a hill and overlooks the harbour. We stop for a washroom break and some snapshots of the harbour.
Back on the bus and we head to the center of the city where there is a real live bull ring. They actually still have bull fights here as they have in days gone by. This is actually a relatively new structure, dating from 1929. It has three levels and looks kind of small if you ask me. Not ...
... a couple of hours wandering the streets. it is a very beautiful and clean city with lovely narrow lanes and nice shops. On our way back to the shuttle we stopped at a street side restaurant and enjoyed A glass of sangria while checking the wifi. The shops here suggest a well to do clientele and that is supported by the number and quality of the pleasure craft in the Marina. The Cathedral looked a magnificent site but unfortunately we did not have time to visit. ...
