Cappadocia, "the Land of Wild Horses", a region of central Anatolia (Asia Minor) around an hour's flight east of Istanbul was largely ignored for centuries until “rediscovered” in the 1980’s and turned into one of Turkey’s major tourist attractions. At this time of year, it’s a hot, dry and dusty place, packed with tourists, but no horses - other than one lone sad-looking horse pulling a cart, we saw not a single animal for which the region was named.
