      ... front was pretty with a grassy area and palm trees on the beach side and a large wetlands area with lakes and lagoons on the inland side. The lake had lots of birds, we could see pelican, smew, small brown ducks ,heron, storks, american coots and what we think was cormorants swimming under the water, fishing, it's incredible how long they can stay under the water for, we followed them with the binoculars for ages and they never seemed to surface.       We left Aigeira with it's sports center and large houses and drove through what turned out to be a small town spread out along one Main Street, as usual this was double parked making it difficult to negotiate.       Despite this being a one horse town (no really, we’ve only spotted one horse!!), Katakolon is the gateway to Olympia, where the ancient Greeks flocked every four years for more than a 1000 years to celebrate the sacred games in honour of the god Zeus.
