... quite cold by the end as we had to take our shoes off to tour the castle & the floors were very cold. Nia decided that another hot sweet fish was the answer so we bought another to take back for tea. Chilled to the bone it seemed like a good moment to experience the hot spring baths in the hotel. There are separate male and female baths. We read up on the dos and don'ts which were summarised by the leaflet as "do as the naked people do" so we did! It was very hot but ...

The castle is the main attraction - we went to see where it is as we plan to visit tomorrow and found a great crowd at the gate waiting for free entrance of the floodlight gardens and music programme starting at 6pm. ... slushier in the afternoon - we decided to ski the morning, have lunch on the mountain and then ski home or catch the gondola. On Wednesday, we were about to ski Skyline home, when the fog arrived just as we were about to hike the last bit. The white out (5 m visibility) meant that we had to go down via the Nagasaka gondola - it was a good thing the white out arrived when it did otherwise it would have been a bit scary on the narrow Skyline. We headed back to the Lodge for ...

... presented breakfasts we have ever had (food tasted great as well!). We really didn’t want to leave after being pampered so throughly during our stay.

Next we caught the brand new (just started operation on March 14th!) Hokuriku Shinkansen to Nagano. Being a new route, even the locals were taking pictures in front of the new train prior to boarding.

After storing our bags in a train station locker*, we picked up our Snow Monkey Park passes ...
