... riding from Alaska let us in. I set about packing the bike, which all in all took over an hour by the time I loaded everything on that we had carried from the UK. ... for the length of time this would take us (the map was very deceptive). Villa Gesell is not very wide (about 7 or 8 blocks) but its very very very long and clever us had decided to walk nearly the length of it in the blazing hot sunshine wearing 20kg each on our backs - who needs the gym eh? After walking for about 50 blocks (no joke, actual number), with a couple of detours here and there to find hostels, we were starting to feel like our backpacks weighed more like ...

... mais je ne suis pas tres a l aise dans leur appart et ai vite fait le tour de ces bourgades qui, bien que flanquees de superbes plages, n'ont pas trop d'interet. Je pars donc a une centaine de km plus au sud, a Mar del Plata, grosse ville en bord de mer genre Cannes. Pas tres interessante de prime abord, mais la encore, ce sont les gens que je vais rencontrer qui vont faire la difference!

We would laze around reading our books until we got fidgety and then we would walk along the boardwalk in one direction or the other, before heading in to town for some kind of barbecued meat for dinner! We did find a quirky little bar right on the beach called Benitos where we spent a lot of time! It's really cozy inside, with an eccentric mix of log cabin decor, harbour equipment and chandeliers. We spent a few days at this coastal town, about 5 hours south of Buenos Aires, as a stopping off point to Puerto Madryn. The weather was lovely so we had a couple of very long walks on the beach, along with a few good seafood dinners. As we were off-season the town was quiet but there were enough people there for the weekend to make it feel lively enough. A really attractive place to chill out for a couple of days.

We´re having a great time so far. We´re having some trouble finding an internet cafe that will allow us to upload pictures, but we´ve got plenty when the time comes. We haven´t met any other Norteamericanos yet and everyone thinks we look European - not bad for us. After the comfort of our first bus journey, our second journey was on a bus which was a little shabby although the journey was a lot shorter (only 7 hours). Rather than films our entertainment consisted of a crazed Argentinian family (or maybe church group?) that burst into song with guitar accompaniment. ... and it was basically just an overdeveloped resort (not at all how the rough guide described it), so we were very glad we had decided to camp out of town and had our own big beach with so few people.
