... in the valley. The valley around the paintings are of volcanic origin. This is an area of geological change as there has been a lot of volcanic activity and there is also evidence of glaciers in the area. The valley where Rio Pinturas runs today follows the course of a northwest-southeast fracture that cuts through the volcanic rock. After our guided tour, we left and drove for about a half hour to where we planned to bush camp for the night. The ...

I woke up in the middle of the night with a headache. I'm not sure if it was the lack of water, lack of sleep, heat in the room, or something else. I tried to sleep it off but when I got up at 6:30 I caved and took tylonel as I wanted to be able to trek today. Here is where we began our trek ...

... I, of course took many photos and then had to keep moving. Two hours later I got to Camp Poincenot and the beginning of the next leg of the trek. The huge climb up 1000m was very steep and there are warnings that you should be in good physical condition to make the climb. There are all sorts of people doing this hike - different ages, different ‘shapes‘…..So now my competitive gear kicks in and I say to myself - ...

... El Chalten, where there was a free hostel for cyclists (totes amazing). El Chalten is notorious for its extremely strong winds, but luckily we had them behind us so we managed to do 40km in three hours, over gravelly and windy roads. The cycle was actually really beautiful and we were both psyched for getting to the town - as we got further into Argentina the landscape became drier and more open, the vegetation became smaller and more sparse and the setting sun lit up the sky ...
