Stranded in the desert

... for the 6.30pm, (look...we were desperate..OK?) After a few more hours in town, we arrived for the 6.30pm show, it was my first ice dancing circus thingy, and it will probably be my last, lots of dancers in various costumes ice skating, with a vague story to some of the sketchs, then iceskaters swirling around the top atached to a rope on the ceiling...very ...

Word to the Wise

... were about to spend $30 for an adapter. We decided to wait, thank god!!! Because in Peru and Bolivia we had no problems using the plugs. Chile has been the first place and right across the street from our hostel, Hostel Los Andes, there is a dollar-store-type store. Where we found the plug adapter we needed for 200 pesos, which is maybe $.30? LOL. Thanks ...

One night only

... After sharing a taxi with the teachers as far a the Plaza, and picking through their guide book for some more info on accommodation as mine has no map or much else of any use either, I found a place to stay and at a reasonable price too just off the main pedestrianised shopping area in the town centre. All ok no problems, the only exciting thing that happened that night was when I was sitting in a cafe for ...

Visca Shenguen!!!! ... encara som a Xile.

High ho around the gaysers.

I should have told the first impressions about Expo, but as those will wait a little, I will start with the most fresh ones. I know there are lots said about altitutude problems, but I didn't realize it will actually hit me. I am trying to question myself what have I done before to initiate it. Alcohol? Long time no. Meat? Nope as well. Guide's tips don't work. Maybe the fast moves I made, but the 4300metres ...

Leaving Argentina for Peru

... balaclavas and sunglasses all the time. However, after a week of getting up at 6.30am each morning it was a relief to have a lie in on Saturday and just relax, it actually felt like a Saturday after a week of work! Then we were lucky to see a ceremony in the square in Salta featuring armed Guachos on foot and horse back and a full military brass band. I still don´t know exactly what was going on ...

Saltitude Sickness???

... wonder who on earth was the first settler. In fact, he or she may have been a lunatic so should be given the benefit of the doubt - who was the second settler who agreed that this looked like a good bet? Anyway, the only thing more depressing than the town itself was our accommodation which was a ramshackle, salt building which sat alone about 200 metres from town. I initially thought it was a joke but was told that this was actually the base for the evening. I am not a snob ...

San Pedro de Atacama rocks!!!

... opened out onto the pool, straw roof (luckily it hardly ever rains - in fact they get between 5 and 25mm of rain per annum only), so no fear of water dripping during the night!!). We were completely blown away and were very excited about a bit of luxury for the next few days. We decided to treat ourselves to lunch at the hotel - an amazing salad for me and a delicious mozzarella, avocado and tomato sandwich for Richard - that we enjoyed on the terrace overlooking the Andean ...

... to kind of get a nights sleep but they give you blankets, pillows and some food aswell. They even have a buss hostess (a fella though) go around and tuck you in almost when he is doing the rounds...nice! We landed in La Serena for a few nights. We didnt know this at the time, but this part of the world has the most expensive observatories in teh world right outside the town in the Andes mountains. NASA and the European space agency ...
