      ... mountains covered in snow, with glaciers visible everywhere (no more Italian frecciarossa or FrecciaBianca trains, with the free coffee/wine carts that visit the seats after each train stop - boo hoo). The countryside was beautiful, with ski runs on many mountains, towns and villages full of chalets, pale blue rivers, and, shock horror, people wearing coats and hats.       ... it seemed, was covered with neat and orderly vineyards - a feast for the eye in our daily ramblings around the region. We did have several gray-sky days and occasional rain, so our photos do not show the region at its best, however the vistas we saw were memorable. The alps near Turin were faintly visible at the best locations.

      Thursday, October 16th, we began our drive out of Italy, toward the beautiful French alps around Chamonix!

      ... a lovely castle and church. While it is a very small town it does have international concerts there each July in the town square. Next year it's Mark Knoffler. For lunch we drove into Alba, a town 35000, which is hosting the Alba White Truffle Festival. There were lots of people in town with many stalls with truffles as well as fruit, vegetables and meats. We explored the white truffle market where white truffles were selling for 200 Euros per 100gms compared to black truffles at 30 ...

      Hi all, we woke to another foggy morning in Venice. After disembarking from the ship we found our way to the train station.
