Where the road starts....

... a New Year's Eve in Venice....so I tagged along. It is incredible how long can it take for the time to come around and start your journey. And when you are there, the time flies! I can't wait to begin this year adventure, but until the time comes, I'll wait.

Jour 1

J'adore Lausanne. Nous sommes all ...

Geneva: Why Did I Bother Unpacking?

... getting some souvenirs, and getting ready to catch the train back to the airport. On the walk back to the train station, I enjoyed a wonderfully authentic Toblerone that I picked up at the hostel vending machine. I’m developing a theory that you can tell a lot about a country from what they stock in their vending machines: Toblerones in Switzerland, bon bons and croissants in France (not to mention the coffee machines), and…junk food in ...

... Point, only to discover that there was no cheap accomodation left and the only places available was 4 and 5 star hotels. So long chat on the phone to Lucy's mum and she said she would pay for us to stay in a nice hotel and send her the bill. What a treat! Lausanne was a really charming city with an excellent atmosphere and wonderfully clean air. So despite staying there for a short peroid of time, I cant wait to go back!

... farmers locate them if they get into trouble) and many beautiful, expensive looking chalets. At this point alarm bells should have probably been ringing, as we still had a 1,000 climb to complete and the last bus from the other side left at 5.30, but we pressed on. We soon exhausted our water supply under the hot Swiss sun, but were able to fill them with ice-cold, pure water from the frequent waterfalls we encountered along the way. It was the best water I’ve ...

Food and Relaxation

We slept well past 10 because of our long travels, running, and excellent light-blocking qualities of Snow Bunny's shades. We said goodbye and took the F bus from Ferney-Voltaire to Cornavin, the main train station in Geneva. We looked for a hotel and settled on the third one we found (Hotel Bernina). We were glad to put our stuff down! We walked around the waterfront for a while, enjoying the nice weather and scenery. We then wandered the ...

Geneva ...the most expensive place yet!

... premises of the UN building because the man who donated it to the original League of Nations specified that the only way that they could have the property was if they kept peacocks on it. Slightly incongruous....snow, mountains, and peacocks but hey the Swiss are a little crazy... (as we were soon to find out in Saas Fee). That night we just decided to make it a night in and have a little hotel party because we were all too poor to afford eating out again. We stopped at the grocery store ...
