... Here we buy some supplies at Carrefours for a picnic lunch, checking out the lovely chateau opposite. I notice some rowers on the river and talk to a fellow from the Royal Club Nautique Sambre et Meuse, which comprised rowing, sailing and tennis! It's a beautiful environment for rowing, and the other sports too I'm sure! We head home via Lustin, with some steep uphills away from the river. After Ivoy we come ...

I go to the tourist office for some help, and after half an hour of calls, the lovely lady eventually finds a doctor open who will see me, a couple of kms out of the city centre. I lash out and have crepes with Cointreau and Pete has his fave creme brûlée. Back to the chateau ce soir to have a nightcap in the sumptuous ...

... and 'lardons' (bacon pieces) salad, and my favourite Leffe blond beer; Pete a lovely gammon steak with mustard sauce. The tour does not start from Antwerp til 1.40 pm, so we don't expect it til after 3pm. We chat with a number of fellow diners who are impressed we have come from Australia to see the race. I try and explain Pete's croquet, but I don't think it gets through! We are back in French speaking Belgium, after our time in the very different Flemish speaking ...

... us felt like it had no soul. There was no heart or life to the town. The temperature is still in the high 30s and it really saps your energy. The sun rises early and doesn't set until after 10:30pm. The twilight time between 8 and 10 is the best time to go for a walk. It cools down and it's very pleasant. Peter has decided on some sort of growth thing on his face, I suppose you would call it a goaty. I suppose we are on ...
