... drinking Alsace wine and beer mixed with liqueur (we need this in Australia - the beer cocktails are delicious, and manage to make beer classy!). Staying with Hanika is just what my soul needed. I've been feeling an itching sense of introversion and grief after last week being Dave's 24th birthday. I kept telling myself the dull feeling that I want to be back in my room was due to me being a severe introvert, but it is easy to get in a ...

This morning we did the Rick Steves walking tour of Colmar. It is such a charming place. There is a fantastic and huge market place with fresh meats, fish, cheeses, sweets, and other "produits de Alsace". We enjoyed it. Then we decided to take the car to a couple more nearby villages, Eguisheim and Turckheim. Eguisheim was recently voted one of "the most beautiful villages in France". It was certainly charming! Round outer walls and an inner wall as well. All of the lanes ...

In 1949 the Council of Europe was formed in Strasbourg to deal with cooperation, human rights, and to help with the democratic development of Europe. this was the precursor to the evolution of the European Union. The European Union was formed in 1992. Enough of history, as we pull in from Kehl, where ...

... of French and German. Really beautiful. This area is called the Alsace region and has passed between French and German rule several times. We had lunch at a nice and popular cafe. I had the Foie Gras - so yummy!! This evening we walked to a church we wanted to see and walked in on the beginning of a concert by some young people - the Eurochoir. It was a treat! Tomorrow, we will pick up our car at the train station and head for Colmar for two ...

Thursday, October 23, 2014 Strasbourg • Baden-Baden tour So much happiness, excitement and joy yesterday! We welcome our grandson Edward Oliver. We will be calling him Oliver. Ed is thrilled to have the first name in his honor. It is amazing to feel so much love when you have only heard him on the phone, and seen him in photos! What a miracle! We had a cocktail party with our friends and the Captain to celebrate. This is our ...
