... had said it would rain further south) and felt a bit optimistic!! Well, our hopes were dashed when a bit before 1pm it started to pour in earnest. We had just passed St. Marcel, the last village before Conques, and when the path diverged from the road, saying 30 minutes to Conques, we took it hoping it would be quicker. We had to descend 300 metres from there to Conques, and after we were past the point ...

... years ago..... Well, signs of life at reception so we have checked in and found we have our own little chalet - lovely, and we go down to the auberge near the church for dinner....AND there is a laundry here, so Amr has charged off with all our clothes to be first in!! We'll be clean in Conques!! ...just a p.s. We went down to the village and saw the sights - church, magnificent view with cross and pilgrim statue, then came back to the bar here and had a drink. ...

We walked along the spine of this hill with views over both ...

... 27 kms by Amr's gadget. Amr says he has just been speaking to a Canadian who had heard that that last bit was hard and came by the road - and arrived an hour earlier.... We will eat well tonight. I mean we will need lots of replacement, but I don't think this Camino is a weight losing experience. In Spain we both involuntarily lost a few kilos by the end, but the meals here are so wonderful, and always four courses - entree, main, cheese and dessert....what can we do but enjoy ...

Day 6 finished, and still going strong!

Amr says he thinks today was the best walk so far. It was again gorgeous countryside. The book said "moderate" today rather than easy, and I think it was because we had to descend right down a mountainside on rather uneven stony path. In fact I think we have just crossed the Aubrac mountains, having been high up there for the last few days. We left leisurely as it was only 17 kms, and turned out to be 18, but the shortest day so far. Left at 9 ...
