... the gate. The ceremony started with the Last Post, then we played a few hymns while wreaths were laid, followed by the national anthems of Australia and Belgium.
We then marched from the Gate down to the market square in the centre of Ypres where we played a concert for half an hour. We finished the concert with Gangnam Style, and our new African friends danced for us!

went with them back to mainland Europe again. We drove the van on a

After dinner outside, we went to the festival gardens and watched a great Swing band with double bass, slide (Hawaiian) guitar and lead guitar. The girl singer was excellent like the rest of the band, no weak link. John went off to collect jumper and cardigan and when he arrived back a couple of guys started doing street theatre badly, Diablo and commentary, very strange. ... just for display. We drove along the scenic canals and windmills, and took postcard-perfect pictures.
After that we went and checked out one of Cindy's to do's, which was to go to a Chocolate factory. It turned out that what was advertised wasn't a factory at all, but just a museum, which charged as much as the Louvre! We decided we didn't have the time or inclination to look at pictures of chocolates, and gave that a skip. But ...
