... well deserved wash. It took some scrubbing to get 5 weeks worth of dirt off him but he sparkled once we were done :)
Another longish drive got us to Arles where the plan was to stay for 2 nights as it was home to van Gogh and lots of Roman ruins. We got a good park on the Rhone River just outside the city walls but the city itself made us feel a little uneasy and something was not quite right. The place was ...
... the security of this fortress. Brian scoped out several indents where floor beams had been inserted, and hinges for doors had been drilled, as well as a fireplace opening. After the 1830’s it’s been used for local bull-fights and has been undergoing extensive renovations. Sandblasters pierced our ears and evidence of new stone was everywhere. Part of me was sad to ...
Arles, Provence, France 2totango... I’ve seen in Arles, Vincent had it just right!
For they could not love you, but still your love was true
And when no hope was left inside on that starry, starry, night
You took your life as lover often do.
But I could have told you, Vincent
This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you

We got to sleep in today and after breakfast headed to the train station to catch a train to Avignon where we were going to meet up with some other friends. Enroute to the train station I realized I had left my sunglasses at the hotel (hence why I purchase cheap ones and thankfully have numerous pairs back home). There was no time to turn around so we continued on in spite of this revelation. When we arrived at the train ...
Avignon, Provence, France trockie... came down near us but we were lucky and just got debris on us. But enough whining about the weather.
Avignon is extremely beautiful and we have a lovely view at night of all the castle etc all lit up as we are camped on a sort of island in the Rhone. We arrived yesterday and explored the town and went to the Popes palace which is the best preserved castle of its age in France. We then ...

After complimentary salads to start, Alison had sliced duck on skewers (the waiter asked, in the manner of steak, how madame would like it), and I had a pot of seafood (Marmite). Both superb. We followed, in the same manner with desserts that were unknown to us, but proved to be delicious – Alison's was a chocolate tart ...

Left Lauterbrunnen early this morning in the quite chilly weather (and got to experience Dean sprint very fast back to the tent in the cold after forgetting his towel for the shower) for our drive back into France to Avignon. Somehow the temperature managed to go up about 100 degrees in between Switzerland and France and so everyone was sweaty and gross by the time we arrived at our very very dusty campsite, all dressed in Winter ...
The road to Uzès heading inland towards the Cévennes mountains,is one of those unforgettable drives. Lush green fields overflowing with wild spring flowers like i imagine Provence to be, the falling light casting a warm vibrant glow accross the landscape. I was meeting Theo, a young musician and fellow couchsurfer...to stay with him and his mum... sleeping in their 800 year old appartment, formerly the castle prison . I meet him in a car park....below the city ...
Uzès, Languedoc-Roussillon, France redbikini... towns we have seen so we decided not to stop. Then it was onto the town of Rovinj which the Lonely Planet books say is the best town to visit in the Province of Istria in Croatia, but again it just looked like another small fishing village .... We think out senses are getting dulled as we have just seen so much! We enjoyed our walk through the town but then we decided to keep driving into Slovenia... not before stopping at a Croatian shopping centre to spend the rest of our Croatian ...
