Semur en Auxois, the hidden gem
... We tried both the restaurants mentioned in the LP, and they really were great. The first night we hit the bistro Le Saint-Vernier, really an old fashioned pub, and the food (and wine) was fantastic and filling. With Matthew and Janet we managed to a few villages, including Montreal. I did my civic duty and directed Fire Engine #2 to go to the same place as Fire Engine #1. He was heading the wrong direction and my immaculate sign languages ensured he arrived at the fire in the little church....glad there wasnt a second fire and he was headed there :-)

Sandy's French has come a long way
We stopped in Chablis today. After a drink we stopped to pick up some chicken to go in the soup for dinner. The butcher had some cuts, what is call "Maryland" in Australia. Sandy and Janet huddled and decided it would be better if it was skinned and chopped up. A few hand actions and some immaculate French and the butcher agreed. He chatted along, just like butchers in Oz.
