... perfection (except for its out of place casino). The 2km promenade along the shore is a must with blooming gardens, sculptures and sights to see everywhere. Strongly recommend! A quick stop at the hotel where Barbara's art is exhibited then we headed back through town window shopping, mostly closed as it was 7pm after a long day. All we could manage was fried rice with shrimp from the Thai restaurant around the corner from us and an early night. Phew! This was definitely a day trip to ...

A day in Gruyere with Barbara

Our day trip to Gruyere gave us our country side and small rural village experience in Switzerland. Beautiful rolling hills of green pastures and wooded forests lead to Gruyere, the town famous for that cheese. The old town (for tourists) is a single quaint street with restaurants, hotels, and craft shops. After a coffee and short walk, we had lunch at Le Chalet de Gruyeres, famous for its fondue. Taken the rack-train to Glion and enjoyed a wonderful lunch at the terrace restaurant at the Hotel Victoria overlooking the Lake. Leonie and Heather taken the boat from Montreux to Le Bouveret, the rest of us retuned home by ...

... rabbits - all cute and close enough to touch. We had to back track to the lookout tower that we missed going up the hill - it's 36 meters tall so I am not sure how me missed it. Anyway the 360 degree views were fab , except the low clouds meant we couldn't see across the lake to the alps in France. There is a picture of me looking a tad exhausted at the top! We followed another track back to Sallaz where we caught the metro back ...

Chillon castle, medieval merriment for all.

The weather looked a bit dodgy but we headed out and caught the train back to Vevey, followed by a boat journey on Lake Geneva to Chillon Castle. Chillon Castle is a pretty big tourist attraction in Switzerland, or so we were informed. It's a very interesting castle dating from around 1000AD, and we did the audio tour. While ...
