This is an interesting little tour and worth doing if you have the time, and definitely if you're a fan of van Gogh.

... it was the weekend and very soon after New Year's Day.

I missed out on seeing the Gardens and the Castle as I arrived late and they'd already done it.

From here we also did a half-day trip to Arles - see next entry.
There are other smaller villages around to do day trips to/from, such as Avignon.
Marseilles and Montpelier are also 2-3 hours away by train.

... had to go to Avignon via a 2 1/2 hour TGV rides. I am amazed at the TGV. So fast!

The first night, Sunday, we arrived. We stayed in a cute hotel right in the city of Avignon. I walked around the city looking at the Pope's palace (not going in yet) and at many cute shops and stands. There were so many painters! They would sell their paintings in little carts in the village and paint while they were manning their stands- ...
