Via Dei Mille, 27, Via Palestro, 65 (check-in) Rome, Lazio, Italy
We got back to Rome so we could meet our flight to Turkey. We managed to visit the "Time Elevator" before we left which was an interactive show (for Kiwis, it was similar to Rainbow's End's Motion Master) about the history of Rome. It was quite entertaining really - we learnt about the legend of Romulus and Remus, twin brothers fathered by Mars, the g-d of war, and the niece of the King who was supposed to be a Vestal Virgin. When the King, Amulius, found out, he feared that the twins would o...
Rome, Italy gil_and_devorahOur first night in Rome was spent in a hostel named "Enjoy". Alas, this hostel was not very enjoyable! It was basically some guys apartment that he had jammed as many bunk beds as possible into, the rooms didn't lock and there were two showers (one in a hallway) and two toilets for everyone! However, the people that we shared our room with were wonderful and that made up for the rather bleak accommodation. The next day we moved to another hostel (planned before we saw how dire Enjoy was as we...

... underground trains). We sleep longer then we expected (perhaps the afternoon snack of cheese and crackers accompanied by Italian wine was a factor). With cameras in hand we head off to the Metro which proves easier to use then we expected and at a euro per one way ticket a great bargain. The Metro can be a pretty crowded area so we take care in the subway to be alert for pickpockets, which everyone has warned us is rife in Rome so for the first little while I feel as ...
Rome, Lazio, Italy indianajill... shops where you can find internet acess for 1.5 Euros, which is about average for Europe. Swiss internet points charge between 4-6 Euros per hour, Germans and Slovakians charge 1, and everyone else comes in between 2-4 Euros. Nicer parts of town will have dedicated internet-only points for 2-3 euros more per hour, so it's best to find a call shop full of Pakistanis, as that's where you'll find the cheapest rates. Tourist offices also tend to be near to the train ...
Rome, Italy sponger42... of pictures and trying to peer down the stairway as much as possible. I have to admit that I was certainly no exception! On Sunday, I had a very busy day wandering around the city with a map! My first stop was to Piazza Barberini, where I lingered around the fountains and checked on the posh hotel (well, from the outside). On the pub crawl-walking tour that I went on, I learned about the smaller fountain in the Piazza- the artist who was commissioned to ...
Rome, Italy lauraliciousToday we toured the oldest parts of Rome - the Coloseum, the Forum, and the Pantheon. We're both very tired right now and we have to get up early, so we are just going to put up the pictures that we took today right now and write more on what we did tomorrow. So, enjoy the pictures and we'll write more tomorrow. Love, Becky and Mike
Rome, Italy beckymike... though seeing as though a lot of them are travelling around but equally a good time! Maggie and Ester were there so we ended up hanging with them for quite some time. The rest of the week we spent relaxing and watching episodes of...you guessed it, FRIENDS!! hehe We tried to make French Toast and bacon on Wednesday but the french toast just wasn't the same as back home!! Ah well!! Friday at 11:30 everyone came to my place and we headed together in a cab to ...
Rome, Italy natfatica... I found that the site had its own tour options available at much lower prices. Waiting on line, I got into chatting with some of the English speakers in the line. We talked about the EU and the US, the similarities and differences, it was a good way to pass the time. The only real problem I had was that no one from the US is eligible for student concessions, which I think is bogus...a student is a student. Oh well, I still wasn't paying the insane prices ...

Rome, Italy tally... The previous evening had produced a brilliant golden horizon. As we crossed the intersection on the far side of Ponte Veccio, there was a Pasticeria with a window full of the most amazing "things". We had to go in. Walked out with a L9,000 "nugget" of chocolate, biscuit, almonds and who knows what. Desert. Noticed in a shop window a poster advertising that on the three following Sundays, there is to be the Firenze Calcio. This is the football game played in a fenced in ...
