More of Moravia

... much pronounce every letter & say them quickly in a row, something I practised several times before I got on the bus to get my ticket), & it was sort of on the way, so it made sense. It has a preserved & actually rather cool looking former Jewish ghetto. Not the Nazi type, from way before that, so it’s not terrible like that. And a river, & the obligatory cool buildings, & most importantly it ...

On the Road Again

... typical meal here in Bohemia is some type of meat cooked with a sauce, some dumplings which are cut like slices of french bread and everyone here is walking around with a 50 cent ice cream cone. They also have a french-like crepe that they make. We had it yesterday with strawberries and whip cream. MMM. It was nice and hilly yesterday. The hills have been relentless. But, as our English friend Ian said: you always get to go down the other side.

Cesky where?

... for fun climbing! Great view of the town and the surrounding country side at the top though. It's cheaper than Prague, which makes it cheaper than home! It's great! Although there isn't all that much to buy! Except for food and drinks... so when in Cesky...! We were able to walk around the entire town & the castle the afternoon we arrived, and left the next day to relaxing at the hostel (first hostel stay & quite an experience ...

Tubin' down the Vltava River

... tubes. Round these parts, floating down the river is pretty much THE thing to do, as it swirls right through the guts of the town, along a number of little ports and pitstops for additional supplies and merriment. We also agreed that, it being American Independence Day, we should blow something up, or at very least set fire to a range of inanimate objects. As i mentioned in my last post, that 3am horror bar sausage was a poor judgement on my part, still digesting the ...

... reason of course. I've seen a lot of different types of money on my travels, and have decided that my wallet is not suited to European currencies. The fat, wide Euro note bulges out of my wallet like a dogs breakfast, and the growing stockpile of shrapnel from Turkey, Germany, the Czech Republic, all ones and two's i might add, or 'three thousands' that amount to about four Aussie cents, are ripping the **** out of my wallet, a 'Costanza' wallet if ever ...

Beautiful Telc

... to do is ladle it into a bowl??? We have discovered the worst service in Europe is most definitely in the Czech Republic...leagues worse than anywhere else! They have gorgeous, cheap Czech crystal here so we bought some pieces to take home. We went to the Chateau and sat in the lovely gardens in the sunlight. This was definitely a highlight of the trip!

... colds we were all nursing and to the grocery store where we bought food for dinner. We came back to the hostel, a quaint stone buldings that over the centuries has served, among other things, as a convent and a home for the mentally disabled. Fiona greets us as we enter. She is curled up under a blanket on the couch. Hostels become home quickly when one has been traveling long enough. She is suffering from the same cold as the rest of us. ... of the funnel for the main highways that ran through it. Since most of the walls have been removed, there are now two additional ways to walk into the square. What were once moats and marshes surrounding the town have been turned into carp ponds. Three storey Renaissance style houses and some four storey public buildings almost entirely border the square on three sides. Ground level arcades with shops and restaurants run most of the way around the three sides. The owners lived ...

... to open a 1.5 litre bottle of water? Not once, but often. Once, when he was talking with the man in the jump seat next to him, he took both hands off the wheel and waved them in the air. He also liked to spend long periods of time looking in the mirror toward the back of the passenger section. Twice he had to jam on the brakes because he missed a merge. Well, anyway, we made it back safely but our knuckles are still white.

Pedaling To Prague

... called it a day there. The road sign for the day was the warning triangle the a little car struggling up a 12% incline. That's what it was all day. Imagine a sheet of corrugated iron, jump on it a few times to ruffle it up a bit and that would be a good relief model of the countryside here. Lots of short climbs. After while I got used to whizzing down hill at 50km/hr and pacing myself up them at 10km/hr. Vlasim looked a bit run down compared to other towns and I stayed in a hotel ...
