Torrontes, Malbec and other good stuff...:-)))

A travel blog entry by claudiaroger

The past four days we spent in beautiful Cafayate - a small town which is biiig on wine ;-)). The premier white wine of this area is Torrontes but the local wineries also produce very nice reds like Malbec and some blends. The great climate with an average of 320 days of sun (!) per year and altitude of 1'700m (with hot days and cold nights) is …

Causing a Cafuffle

A travel blog entry by doove

My first experience of Bolivian bus rides wasn't the greatest... Leaving Uyuni, the town next to the salt flats the aim was to get back down to The Argentine border and head towards Salta. This was the one part of my route I had no idea where to actually go, but sorted out my ticket at least to the border crossing...

That however meant …

Boozing and schmoozing in Cafayate

A travel blog entry by nicky_n_aza

Cafayate = wine region!! Points for guessing what we did?!

We had selfishly decided to visit Cafayate for wine, warm sunny days and spectacular scenery. And we weren't disappointed. Cafayate is a tiny wee town of some 5000 people however it has many many vineyards within walking/biking distance of each other on the outskirts of the town ( …

Colorful Cafayate

A travel blog entry by dowd0031

Cafayate was not on my original itinerary, but after reading Lonely Planet's description of the "spectacular Quebrada de Cafayate," I figured it warranted a visit. While there isn’t a whole lot to do in Cafayate proper aside from visiting the few in-town wineries and whiling away the time around the town plaza, the Quebrada de Cafayate more …

Entering Salta

A travel blog entry by squonk2000

We left Tucumán (and Joel, who took another way, there) province to enter Salta. We arrived at noon in Cafayate: we were received by a very nice but hurried man. He brought us quickly to a hostel and after that rapidly to an excursion in the wineries.
In this city there are some of the most prestigious wineries in the country, where it's …

Everything what you need and nothing more. Few showers for its capacity and the staff doesn't seem to be wanting to help the guests.
Party time all the time, so if you're looking for silence, this is not your place.
The balcony that gives the name to the hostel is beautiful, and the location of the hostel is very good, close to the main square.

Great hostel slap bang in the middle of town. Awesome parilla, nice rooftop terrace, huge double room and super-helpful staff. Best spot to stay in town.
